Ristorante di Canaletto
Giovanni Antonio Canal was born in Venice, on
October 18th, 1697. Canaletto, as he was known professionally,
had an uncommon appreciation for sunlight and shadow and
the way light is cast upon buildings and scenery.
As an artist, he captured on canvas the Venetian landscape
as no otherartist before or since.
Even today, Canaletto's artistry continues to influence
landscape artists, while his realistic and dramatic depictions
of his native city inspire millions.

ジョバンニ・アントニオ・カナルは、1697年10月18日、
イタリアのヴェネツィアに生まれました。
画家としてはカナレットという名前で知られる彼は、人並み以上に太陽の光や陰影を愛し、
建物や風景に投げかけられる光にことさらこだわりを持っていました。
芸術家として、彼ほどヴェネツィアの風景をキャンバスに捉えた芸術家は、
後にも先にも出現していません。
カナレットの芸術性は、今日でも多くの風景画家に影響を与え、
生まれ故郷の街をリアルでドラマティックに描いた彼の作品は、
何百万人という人々を魅了し続けています。
